Post Date:03/06/2017 10:35 AM

"Community in Bloom" was conceived, funded and facilitated by the Smyrna Arts and Cultural Council to highlight diversity through art. This collaborative effort was shared amongst friends and neighbors to celebrate the blossoming community of our Jonquil City, Smyrna. This community art project comprises 60 homasote tiles that, when brought together, form a spray of jonquil flowers painted by attendees from the 2016 Fall Jonquil Festival. This work represents the hearts and minds of children, young and seasoned adults, all of different ethnicities from all walks and stations of life. As Aristotle once said, "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts," hence the title "Community in Bloom."

Contributing organizations included the City of Smyrna, Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, Art Serve International and Cumberland Community Church.  Shaun Martin, Community Artist, led a team of volunteers and worked with feature artists, Freedom and Nancy Rodriguez, founders of ArtServe International who embellished the art with gold accents to harmonize the composition.

"Community in Bloom" is a traveling exhibit and will be on display at the Smyrna Public Library, 100 Village Green Circle, SE, Smyrna, GA 30080 from March 6th thru April 17th.
